Something’s Phishy

In Toronto, Danny and Bex, Queer/Nonbinary Asian best friends, navigate love's complexities. Danny seeks their perfect match, while Bex, bold yet commitment-shy, hatches a plan: creating a Grindr profile with Danny's images to showcase their appeal. Chaos ensues as suitors arrive with misconceptions. Ultimately, their bond is put to the test but strengthens as they confront insecurities and embrace authenticity.

'Something’s Phishy' is a romantic comedy about Queer/Nonbinary Asian friendship and the desire to be accepted and loved for who you are. This is a lighthearted story that features and highlights the specific experiences of Queer/Nonbinary Asians in navigating romantic/intimate encounters. This film asks the question: What are we willing to do to attract the person we want? What parts of ourselves do we intentionally show or hide? Specifically, on dating apps like Grindr, where we’re often reduced to a photo, statistics, and subcategories based on body type.
